The Beyond the Written guidebook

Make a free prep plan

Find official practice materials and turn them into a manageable routine.

Editorial review:
STEP 01

Begin with official practice

College Board offers free SAT practice through Bluebook and Official SAT Prep on Khan Academy. ACT's official preparation page includes free practice alongside paid products. Choose materials for the current version of your test; a paid course is not required to get started.

STEP 02

Keep the plan small enough to use

Try an official practice set, review the explanations, and choose one skill to work on next. Schedule short sessions that fit your week. Use another practice set to check what you understand; no practice tool can guarantee a particular score.

  • Check device and accessibility requirements before downloading a practice app.
  • Ask your school or library about internet, computer access, and available study support.
  • Check whether a resource requires an external account. Beyond the Written itself does not.
STEP 03

Look for benefits already included

ACT currently includes specific preparation benefits when eligible students register using a fee waiver. Review the current program before buying preparation separately. Test fee waivers and free study materials are different resources; you may be able to use free materials without a waiver.
